GHANA MEDICAL TRUST FUND ENGAGES NLA ON PARTNERSHIP TO IMPROVE HEALTHCARE DELIVERY.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025, paid a courtesy call on the Director-General Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Salam, to discuss possible areas of collaboration aimed at improving healthcare facilities across the country.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both institutions to explore how they can work together to support hospitals with critical medical equipment, infrastructure, and other essential resources.

The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, explained that the Fund, established under Act 114, has begun a nationwide needs assessment of hospitals. The assessment has revealed significant gaps in medical infrastructure and diagnostic equipment, particularly in areas such as MRI, CT scans, dialysis, and breast screening services.

She emphasized that many hospitals are struggling to provide adequate healthcare due to the lack of modern facilities and equipment and called on corporate institutions like the NLA to partner with the Fund in retooling hospitals and strengthening healthcare delivery.
The Director-General, Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Salam, commended the Fund for its proactive efforts and reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote national development. He noted that contributing to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund aligns with NLA's Corporate Social Responsibility objectives and its mandate to use proceeds from lottery operations for good causes.

Mr. Abdul-Salam further indicated that the Authority is open to exploring mechanisms for regular support to the Fund, possibly through project-based partnerships or annual contributions, as part of its efforts to make a lasting impact on the health sector.
The Deputy Director-General, Mr. Eric Yeboah Wadie, also reiterated the Authority's readiness to collaborate with the Fund and expressed optimism that the partnership would yield positive results.

The Director of Corporate Communications, Ms. Afua Serwaa Offie, expressed appreciation to the NLA for its warm reception and willingness to partner. She stated that both organizations share a common goal of improving the welfare of Ghanaians through sustainable development initiatives.
