NLA RECOVERS OVER GH¢2 MILLION IN SIX-DAY SWOOP IN ACCRA TO ENFORCE COMPLIANCE

The Operations Department in conjuction with the Security and Intelligence Department have successfully undertaken a six-day swoop in Accra aimed at enforcing compliance among licensed lottery operators. The exercise, led by Head of Operations, Mr. Andrew Tuah and the General Manager for Security and Intelligence Department, Mr. Trinita Nyarko in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces, resulted in the recovery of over GH¢2 million owed the Authority.

This targeted operation was part of the NLA's broader strategy to ensure that all registered and licensed operators fulfill their financial obligations, including payments toward Good Causes, annual license fees, and agreed revenue shares. These obligations are critical to supporting government initiatives and sustaining national development efforts.

The joint swoop team have stated that such enforcement exercises would be replicated in other parts of the country in the coming weeks. The NLA called on all stakeholders, including operators to support its ongoing efforts to clean up the lottery industry. It also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the promotion of responsible gaming.

Established by an Act of Parliament, National Lotto Act 2006 (Act 722), the NLA is mandated to regulate, supervise, and conduct lottery operations in Ghana. The Authority also plays a pivotal role in generating revenue to support government development programmes through its Good Causes initiative.

The swoop is in line with the NLA's mandate to sanitize the lottery industry, protect public interest, and ensure fairness and integrity within the lottery industry.
